Kenya targets to increase its exports to United Kingdom to Sh41 billion, a five per cent surge in the first year of post-Brexit bilateral trade.

Cabinet Secretary, Industrialisation, Trade and Enterprise Development Betty Maina said the figure will build on the current exports to the UK which has leveled at $390 million (Sh39 billion) between 2015 and 2019, with major exports being flowers, coffee, tea, fruit, vegetables, and textiles.

“Our strategy is to pursue a robust marketing campaign with a target for the first year of five per cent increase over the current exports to the UK market.

The subsequent years will grow incrementally by the same or higher margins,” she said.

Kenya and Britain signed a post-Brexit continuity trade agreement on December 8 at the Foreign Commonwealth office in London.

The Economic Partnership Agreement now awaits ratification by Parliament before it comes into effect on January 1.
