The Employment and Labor Relations court has temporarily issued orders stopping the ongoing strike by health workers in Nairobi County. 

 This comes after Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) filed an application before Justice Maureen Onyango seeking orders to suspend the strike by health workers under the Kenyan National Union of Nurses (KNUN), Kenya Union of Clinical Officers and three other unions. 

  “The strike notice dated October 16, calling upon the members of the respondents to picket and or demonstrate at KICC building starting from November 1 is suspended pending inter partes of this application,” ordered Justice Onyango.

 She also ordered that the matter be heard into parties on November 11together with a similar case involving the Kenya medical practitioners pharmacists and dentists union against NMS.

The orders came after health workers on Monday downed their tools which paralyzed services at major public health facilities across the county.

They were also in protest against delayed promotions, re-designation and accused NMS of violating the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

The health workers agreed to abide by the court orders on the condition that their grievances will be addressed. 

Over the years members of the Kenya National  Union of Nurses, Kenya Union of Clinical Officers,  Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentist Unions have downed tools  against a long list of grievances.
