After grappling to offer services from an old mud-walled and collapsing office, administrative officers at Ngoliba ward in Thika, Kiambu County can afford a smile after they were handed over new offices.

The new, three-roomed offices were built by National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) in Thika at a cost of Sh 1.5 million.

Formerly, the area Chief Alice Njoki was offering services at the office whose room was leaking, had started developing cracks making it very unsafe.

The new office, will host the Assistant County Commissioner, chief and their secretary.

Njoki said the old building was rundown and they feared it would collapse during rainy seasons.

“This was a building at the verge of collapse. We thank Thika NG-CDF for putting up a new structure that will now see us offer services more efficiently.

While people feared to approach us at the former office, we are expecting they will now feel secure to talk to us,” she said.

Thika MP Patrick Wainaina who handed over the project regretted that most national administrators have been offering services in deplorable offices thereby demotivating them.

He lamented that in the old, rundown offices; the image of the government was portrayed negatively and promised to work towards ending the deplorable environments that most officers work in.

“We have a huge task to put up structures that befit the names of our administrative officers. They have been offering services from deplorable conditions and we have embarked on changing that narrative,” he said.

The MP also announced construction of new police posts in areas mapped as insecurity hotspots.

He however decried inadequacy of funds to handle a myriad of challenges the constituency was facing.
