The State has announced to ban street hawking to combat coronavirus as cases reach 649.

Health Ministry Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rashid Aman said that community transmissions had also risen and proven the most challenging in the containment of coronavirus in the country.

While confirming 28 more Covid-19 cases on May 9, Mr. Rashid said transmission within the estates is the biggest threat in the fight against Covid-19.

“Community transmission is the most challenging to contain. All our efforts are aimed at containing that spread. Let us continue to observe the measures in place so that we can flatten our curve,” said Mr. Rashid.

Since yesterday, the Ministry had tested 1, 611 samples, 28 of which turned positive.

In the newest cases, 24 are Kenyan nationals and the rest four Tanzanians. So far, Kenya has tested 31, 041 cases, translating to about 0.065 per cent of the total population.

New measures

To contain the spread, Mr. Rashid announced the government’s plan to ban hawking, any public gathering, and closure of malls.
