Busia Deputy Commissioner Joseph Onyango has raised the alarm over cons, who are taking advantaging of the coronavirus pandemic to steal from travellers.

Onyango cautioned residents to be wary of some motorists who are issuing fake masks.

He added that police had received reports that some motorists along Busia-Kisumu highway are donating masks to travellers, who then fall asleep and lose their valuables while on transit to different areas.

He advised travellers not to accept unsolicited donations from strangers.

The Deputy Commissioner spoke at Busia County Referral Hospital after holding a closed-door meeting with Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi and the Health Committee on measures put in place to prevent spread of the virus
