A family in Eldoret is in agony after their daughter went missing under mysterious circumstances while heading to school on Saturday.

Beryl Chemtai, 14, left her Maili Nne home on the outskirts of Eldoret for AIC Kessup Girls in Elgeyo Marakwet county at 9.30am.
Her father Gilbert Chepkwony said the school informed him that she never reported.

“We call on Kenyans of goodwill to volunteer any information which can lead to her whereabouts. We are very devastated as a family following her disappearance,” Chepkwony told People Daily.

He said his daughter, a Form Two student, has been going to school alone since she joined last year. “Her class teacher usually calls me the moment the girl reaches the school but apparently, he was not in school that Saturday.”

He said he wasn’t worried as the teacher promised to get in touch on Sunday.

They did not, however, talk on Sunday and it was only on Monday that they were informed that the girl was not in school.

“The girl was in high spirits when she left home for school and had not shown any signs of stress or disturbance,” said Chepkwony.

According to Chepkwony, they were planning to move their daughter to a new school this year but the process was tedious.

“She understood this and even agreed to go back to her school. Beryl is a very disciplined and hardworking girl. We are hopeful of finding her soon for her to continue with her studies,” he said.

The family has since reported the incident at Baharini Police Station in Uasin Gishu county.
