‘Ministry of Labour looks like a marketing agency’- Kasmuel Mcoure
Revolutionary artist Kasmuel Mcoure has criticised President William Ruto’s administration’s model of job creation.
Speaking during a live TV interview on Friday, December 13, 2024, Kasmuel poked his nose at the current labour export championed by the Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua stating how the ministry has been positioned recently now looks like a marketing job agency.
“It is not a matter of creating jobs, if you see the entire Ministry of Labour is focusing and if you see the way it has been positioned recently it looks like a marketing agency a job agency that is a middleman in exporting labour,” Mcoure said.
He went on to say that the jobs that the Kenya Kwanza regime is creating are not satisfactory since the opportunities are primarily for artisans adding that the government is focusing on capital-intensive projects and overshadowing unemployment issues.
In addition, the revolutionary artist advised the current government to invest more in education and skills training to curb the unemployment crisis facing the country.
“The current government focuses on capital-intensive projects, resulting in limited job opportunities primarily for artisans. We must create more inclusive job opportunities across all sectors, not just for the Jua Kali sector, a lot of these jobs created by Kenya Kwanza are not satisfactory.
“One of the primary things which we are supposed to take care of if we are trying to curb unemployment is you are supposed to invest in education and skills training but our education system is not working we do not have an investment in our skill set therefore even the jobs that he is claiming to have created are not necessarily created by him because remember you scrutinize this jobs keenly you will realize a lot of it is just academic writing a lot of people who are shown in those ICT hubs are people who are participating in academic writing,” he said.
Mutua on jobs overseas
On November 27, 2024, CS Mutua in a statement revealed that 5,931 Kenyans had secured international job placements through a government-led recruitment initiative. The initiative, launched recently, is aimed at connecting skilled Kenyan workers with employment opportunities overseas.
“I am pleased to announce that 5,931 Kenyans have secured job opportunities abroad since the launch of the government’s national recruitment exercise just ten days ago. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to linking skilled Kenyans with overseas employment opportunities as we address the pressing issue of unemployment in our country,” the CS stated.
