Mumias East Constituency Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has regretted going out to party just a day to a race he was supposed to represent Kenya at the ongoing East African Community Inter-Parliamentary games at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.

Taking to his official Instagram account shortly after failing to secure a win in the 1500m race, Salasya stated that he would have spent more time practicing than partying.

The youthful lawmaker stated that he had lost all his energy in the last lap, making it hard to beat his competitors from Uganda.

However, Salasya promised to claim victory in the short races of 200m and 100m.

“I tried but gas akh .I wish I couldn’t have gone out yesterday and did more practice đŸ˜Ș last lap wasted me I lost all my gas, but I promise them a run for their gas in short races,” Salasya stated.

Salasya warns Ugandan MPs

Salasya had on Monday, December 9, 2024, sounded a warning to Ugandan Members of Parliament ahead of the 1500-metre race.

Salasya noted that he was fit from all the partying over the weekend and that the visiting Ugandan MPs would be in for a rude shock.

“Saah ii huyo Muganda ndio natafuta. Chang’aa yote imeshatoka kwa mwili; sasa saa hii ni mbio,” Salasya bragged.

“Muganda atanitambua leo wapende wasipende
1500m lazima nichukuwe.”

In the men’s 1500m, Uganda continued its strong showing, taking three of the top four positions, while Kenya secured 3rd and 7th positions.

The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Tanzania and Rwanda followed in the rankings.

However, Kenya claimed the coveted 400m relay title. Led by Vincent Kawaya (Mwala), the Kenyan team delivered a spectacular performance.

Uganda shines

Uganda however, claimed victory in the women’s 400m relay. The neighbouring country has been doing well at the ongoing games.

The Ugandan MPs thrashed their Kenyan counterparts 3-0 on Sunday, December 8, 2024, in a football match where they showed dominance in both the first and second half.

Uganda’s Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang scored twice to dash the hopes of Kenya’s Bunge FC who had anticipated a strong opening match on home soil.

The visitors’ exceptional tactical discipline and clinical finishing paid a lot towards their victory in what was otherwise a competitive encounter.

“Both teams exhibited exemplary sportsmanship throughout the match, reflecting the true essence of regional brotherhood. Bunge FC now lives to outshine their brotherly neighbours, another day,” Parliament said in a statement after the match.
