Reaction to pausing recruitment drive
Labour Cabinet Secretary (CS) Alfred Mutua on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, announced that the nationwide recruitment for foreign jobs was taking a temporary hiatus until mid-December, 2024.
CS Mutua stated that the break had been necessitated by preparations for the Jamhuri Day celebrations on December 12, 2024.
“As we continue with this journey, the recruitment drive will take a brief pause to accommodate preparations for the upcoming Jamhuuri Day celebrations,” Mutua said in a statement.
Justifying the short pause, Mutua explained that the Jamhuri Day theme for 2024 dubbed, ‘Labour Migration, Entrepreneurship, and Entertainment’, aligned with the ministry’s mandate.
The move is expected to attract a reaction from a section of Kenyans, especially from Kakamega where the drive was expected to head on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
“Because of the success of the last 6 counties, we are going to take a small break so that we can do some stock taking, a bit of reorganization and also to be able to process whatever we’ve gotten now so that people can start traveling….”#AbroadJobsKE pic.twitter.com/wQVkyeOAmm

Mediation Committee sitting
The Mediation Committee on the County Government Additional Allocation Bill, 2024 is expected to continue on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
This follows the first sitting, which was convened on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, as the 18-member committee sought to reach a consensus on the Senate’s appropriation of Ksh61.9 billion as additional allocation to counties in the Financial Year 2024/25, as passed by the Senate on June 11, 2024.
In his opening remarks, the Mediation Committee Co-chair and also National Assembly’s Chairperson for the Budget and Appropriations Committee Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu MP), reiterated the House’s support for devolution, urging Members to arbitrate the issue at hand fairly.
“There is no contestation about who supports devolution. We all support and we all want counties to get money,” Nyoro stated.
“Therefore, as we deliberate, we must know that even after we meditate here, we are not the final arbiters of the matter before us. The final arbiters are the respective Plenaries.” He added.
Senator Tabitha Karanja, the Co-chair and Senate’s Vice-chairperson of the Committee on Finance and Budget, further urged Members to pursue the Mediation with an open mind and endeavour to conclude within the shortest time.
