Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a temporary closure of 17 roads and seven streets in Nairobi County on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
In a public notice posted on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, KURA stated that the 6.00 am to 10.00 am temporary closure will affect motorists plying the routes on major roads and streets within CBD.
KURA general director Silas Kinoti attributed the temporary closure to a half marathon event to commemorate World AIDS Day which aims to to promote the health and well-being of men and boys.
In addition, the KURA boss noted that the marathon will start at Nyayo National Stadium to Museum Hill via Uhuru Highway.
“Nairobi Roads will be closed on Sunday 1st December 2024 from 6.00 am to 10.00 am for the 2024 World AIDS Day Half Marathon which is intended to promote the health and well-being of men and boys,”
“The marathon will start at Nyayo National Stadium to Museum Hill via Uhuru Highway, Kenyatta Avenue, Koinange Street, Muindi Mbigu Street, Wabera Street, Taifa Road, Harambee Avenue, Parliament Road, Haile Selassie Avenue, Lower and Upper Hill Roads, Marathon Road, Ragati Road, Hospital Road, Elgon Road, Matumbato Road, Masaba Road, Wakihuri Road, Bunyala Road, Commercial Street, Enterprise Road, Dar es Salam Road, Dunga Road, Lusaka Road and Aerodrome Road,” Kinoti announced.
Kinoti further urged motorists to use alternative routes and follow the guide by the traffic police and the marshal.
“The public is requested to utilise alternative routes as guided by traffic and marshals and to plan for this disruption. We regret the inconvenience this event will cause on your normal routine,” he advised.
