Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has yet again weighed on the recently cancelled Adani deal between Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO).

In a statement via his official X account on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, Kalonzo urged President William Ruto to give Kenyans additional details about the amount of money Adani paid and who received the funds.

In addition, the Wiper leader added that the Adani group deals have not only affected Kenya but the entire world.

“The #AdaniGroup deal affects the entire world, not just Kenya. We are dealing with high-level corruption. We want additional details about who was paid what. A large sum of money was given to Kenyan officials,” Kalonzo said.

Eugene on Adani deal

DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa via his X account also revealed that he together with other petitioners has obtained conservatory orders preventing Adani or his proxies from any further dealings with JKIA.

“Today with the Petitioner@TonyGachok15769 and my learned friends @Skmusyoka SC, @DanielMaanzo, @KibeMungai and David Adwoli, have obtained conservatory orders preventing Adani or his proxies from any further dealings with JKIA or any other parties that the Broad-based Government might be planning to on-board to replace Adani until this matter is heard on 29th January 2025,”

“We, however, insisted they must table evidence of such cancellation and consequent losses Kenya is likely to suffer in terms of penalties and accountability for the same, after which the case must proceed to hearing as a matter of great Public interest to determine several matters of law and Constitutionality of certain provisions of the PPP Act that are being misused and abused to facilitate opaque high-level corruption deals,” he revealed.

JKIA-KETRACO deal

Speaking during the State of the Nation address on Thursday, November 21, 2024, President William Ruto announced the cancellation of JKIA and the KETRACO energy transmission project deals involving Indian conglomerate Adani following revelations of potential integrity issues.

During his speech, Ruto reiterated his stance, citing corruption concerns as the basis for terminating the agreements involving JKIA and KETRACO.

“Accordingly, I now direct in furtherance of the principles enshrined in article 10 of the constitution on transparency and accountability and based on new information provided by investigative agencies and partner nations that the procuring agencies within the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum immediately cancel the ongoing procurement process for the JKIA expansion public-private partnership,”

“I have said that because of the information provided to us by partner nations, I have directed agencies within the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum to immediately cancel the ongoing procurement process for the JKIA expansion public-private partnership transaction as well as the recently concluded KETRACO transmission public-private partnership transaction,” Ruto declared.
