Kenya’s African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship candidate Raila Odinga has met political leaders elected on the Orange party ticket from Western, in an effort to solidify the region ahead of grassroots elections.
Raila on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, met ODM Members of Parliament (MPs) and governors from the Mulembe nation at a dinner meeting in a Nairobi hotel.
During the meeting, the former Prime Minister sought to make the Orange party stronger and more popular in the region, as before, ahead of the upcoming grassroots elections set for November 27, 2024.
ODM in a statement shared via X on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, revealed some of the details of Raila’s meeting with the ODM elected leaders from the Western region.
Raila on mobilizing ODM troops
According to ODM, Raila also told the leaders to mobilize the Orange party troops, unite them and stop causing unnecessary divisions among supporters, in an effort to strengthen the party.
Raila also urged the said leaders to ensure that the upcoming grassroots elections are peaceful.
“Party Leader yesterday held a dinner meeting with party elected leaders from Western Region at a Nairobi Hotel. He underscored the need for the leaders to show leadership and ensure there’s unity amongst them for a stronger and more popular ODM in the region as we go to the Party elections that will be held on the 27th of this month.
“He told them to mobilize our troops, unite them and stop causing unnecessary divisions among supporters if they wanted ODM to continue enjoying the support it has in the region. He said elections should be peaceful,” ODM stated.

The ODM party’s top officials also attended the meeting.
They include Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi, Director of Elections Junet Mohamed and Kakamega branch chairman Governor Fernandes Barasa.
Former Deputy Party Leader Wycliffe Oparanya who now serves as Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Development also attended the meeting.
ODM grassroot elections
ODM on November 18, 2024, issued an update to its members ahead of the upcoming grassroots elections.
The party updated the members that its National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) had conducted training and officially appointed the County Elections Committees (CECs) for all 47 counties.
The party also stated that only the polling unit elections will be conducted on November 27, in all gazetted polling centres across the country, with the party members expected to elect a total of 30 officials.
“Following the notice issued on 4 November 2024 regarding the above subject, the NECC wishes to announce the following. That in collaboration with the Party’s Legal Committee, the NECC conducted training and officially appointed the County Elections Committees (CECs) for all the forty- seven (47) counties,” ODM stated.
According to ODM, the 30 officials that will be elected in the upcoming polls are 10 officials of the Polling Unit Steering Committee, 10 officials of the Polling Unit Women League, and 10 officials of the Polling Unit Youth League.
