Saboti constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has lauded the church over its recent stance on the government.

Taking to his official X account on Monday, November 18, 2024, Amisi stated that the church has a chance in a million to be the bastion of change that Kenya badly needs.

“The church seems to be gloves off on government failures. They have a chance in a million to be the bastion of change that Kenya badly needs,” Amisi stated.

Amisi’s conditions to church

However, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker listed some of the conditions that the church must adhere to, to ensure that their course is successful.

According to Amisi, the clergy should ensure that none of their members visits State House in search for amicable solution between the church and the government.

He also argues that the clergy must remain consistent, true, focused, and never allow uncouth politicians on the church pulpit.

The lawmaker went ahead to state that should the men in cloth do anything contrary to what he has stated, they risk being labeled as being in bed with the government.

“They should make sure none of their members visit statehouse in search for amicable solution between the church and government and that they remain consistent ,true ,focused, and never allow those uncouth politicians on their pulpit . Anything contrary would label them birds of the same feather. Kenya needs a Renaissance!” Amisi said.

Nyanza clergy slams Ruto

Amisi’s statement comes just hours after church leaders from Nyanza joined Catholic bishops in calling out President William Ruto’s administration.

A section of Nyanza church leaders on Monday, November 18, 2024, backed the position of the Catholic bishops as they issued eight irreducible minimums to President Ruto.

The leaders said the country is headed in the wrong direction and it is only the clergy remaining standing to point at the wrongs being committed.

Bishop Mark Godia of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Maseno West Diocese says the Catholic Bishops pointed out the ills and were not adversarial.

Addressing a press conference in Kisumu at the ACK Maseno South Diocese church, Godia said the energy being used to criticize the church should be directed into looking into interventions to the problems bedevilling the country.

“It is a great pity that some leaders in this country can have the courage to criticize the Bishops for speaking against corruption in Kenya,” he said.

They want a publication of state appointments, a list of those convicted of mega corruption, a report on foreign travels, the status of the offices of the First and Second Ladies, revoking of the unpopular university funding model, implementation of the lectures return to work formulae and speedy appointment of the new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioners.
