Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has weighed in on the recent remarks from the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) criticizing the President William Ruto-led administration accusing it of promoting dishonesty, lack of integrity in governance and neglecting critical issues affecting the nation.

Speaking on Saturday, November 17, 2024, Murkomen accused the bishops of spreading lies about Kenya Kwanza governance saying enough positive things are going on in various ministries, however, the dilapidated economy Ruto’s government inherited from the previous regime has made it difficult to attain the goals indicated in the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.

Murkomen expressed that despite the bottleneck of manoeuvring a problematic economy, the government has still been able to tackle several issues including lowering fuel and unga prices.

“Nataka kuambia rais wetu na wizara yetu, msidanganywe na wale wanaubiri dini ya uongo kwamba kazi haiendelei, there is enough going on in various ministries yenye sisi tunaongoza hapa kama mawaziri, bahati mbaya ni tuli inherit uchumi na kwa miaka mbili tumepunguza bei ya unga na mafuta, kwa hii miaka mbili tumehakikisha dollar iko chini,

“Juzi tumesomewa kwa cabinet ya kwamba for the first time, we are not importing sugar, kwa sababu ya zile reforms rais alileta, sugar sasa inatengezwa Kenya, ndio tunakula Kenya yetu, na kuna reforms tunataka kuendeleza kwa agriculture kuhakikisha kwamba mambo ya rice tunapanda wenyewe na tunakula chakula yetu. Saizi mahindi yenye tunaimport, inakuja to zero kwa sababu ya zile reforms za fertiliser,” he said.

Acknowledging that there are still a few loose strings that need to be tightened to revive the economy, Murkomen appealed to religious leaders to focus on the positives when addressing citizens, asserting that it is vital to recognise the good to motivate leaders to keep working.

He further stated that Kenyans ought to reorient their mindsets to start seeing the good things accomplished by the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“There are a lot of good things going on in our country. I know there are challenges that we face in our nation but I want to request our religious leaders and all the people of Kenya, that it is not always good to look at a glass that has half a glass of water and say it is empty, it is always important to recognise that the glass is half full, it is always good to look at the positives because if you say you are people with negativity all the time, with negative minds or hearts kwa mambo yenye inaumiza roho, mtu hawezi kufanya kazi, the challenge we face as a nation is a mindset, we need to reorient our mindset so that we look at the positives not always focusing on the negatives.”
