Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Gor Mahia have confirmed the termination of coach Leonardo Neiva’s contract.
The news comes at a time when the defending champions have been facing a run of poor results, putting much pressure on the technical bench.
“Gor Mahia Football Club today (Wednesday, November 13, 2024) announces the termination of the contract of head coach Mr. Leo Neiva. This decision was made after the club’s management invoked a contractual clause, leading to the end of the coach’s tenure effective immediately.
“The club extends its gratitude to Mr. Neiva for his commitment, hard work, and contributions to Gor Mahia during his time with the team. However, following a thorough evaluation and in the interest of aligning with the club’s long-term vision, the management has determined that a change in leadership is necessary,” a statement by the club read.
K’Ogalo have also stated what they need from a new manager who will be hired to succeed the Brazilian coach.
“Gor Mahia’s executive committee and management remain committed to maintaining the club’s competitive edge and upholding its strong legacy. The club will begin the search for a new head coach who embodies the values and aspirations of Gor Mahia Football Club and who will bring renewed energy and strategic insight to the team,” the statement added.

Zico in charge
In the meantime, Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and Michael Nam will be in charge of the club on an interim basis.
“In the interim, Zedekiah Otieno and Michael Nam will oversee the team’s preparations and match responsibilities as the recruitment process for a new head coach progresses.
“We appreciate the continued support of our fans, sponsors, and partners during this transition. Gor Mahia Football Club is fully committed to delivering a successful season and will keep supporters updated as new developments unfold,” the statement concluded.
Neiva was appointed to succeed Johnathan McKinstry, and his appointment was confirmed on July 1, 2024.
