A day after Donald Trump was announced the 47th president of the United States of America (USA) sparking celebrations among his enthusiasts, the country’s ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman finally broke her silence yesterday on the development.
After hours of speculation and detestation by a section of Kenyan netizens for her perceived close relationship with President William Ruto, once acclaiming him as a very strong, smart man who gets things done, Whitman expressed confidence that America’s relationship with Kenya will remain strong despite the changes in leadership.
In a statement to newsrooms, the ambassador stated that like her counterparts, she is bound to serve at the request of the president.
With the American people having spoken and with Trump now expected to be inaugurated in January next year, the ambassador stated that she will continue to work on advancing America’s nations’ shared goals of increased prosperity, security, and respect for democratic values.
“The relationship between the United States and Kenya has matured over the past 60 years and has enjoyed the support of a wide spectrum of political leaders in both Washington and Nairobi. Our relations have never been stronger and I am confident this trajectory will continue,” she said.
Trump, the once and now future president, capped an unlikely political comeback by defeating Vice President Kamala Harris.
