Police in Juja, Kiambu county, seized 480 litres of industrial ethanol and cartons of assorted second-generation alcohol being manufactured and stored inside a three-bedroomed house at Theta village.
The alcoholic drinks were seized in the house where they were being distilled, packed and reportedly sold to bars in the surrounding area.
According to Kiambu County police commander Michael Muchiri, police also managed to find a roll of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stickers believed to have been used by the manufacturer to evade taxes and hoodwink consumers.
During the operation, police managed to arrest eight suspects- two women and six men- who were detained awaiting prosecution in court.
Strange activities
Residents who spoke to journalists after the operation said the activities inside the quiet residence were strange to them.
They stated that the manufacturer may have been transporting the illicit drinks at night as they hardly witness activities around the home during the day.
The police commander lauded locals for volunteering information that led to the impromptu crackdown, saying that their actionable information could save the country from unscrupulous people hell-bent on destroying the lives of Kenyans.
