Police have recovered a handbag and a pair of shoes believed to belong to the woman who was murdered and her body immersed in a chemical before being dumped at the Lang’ata cemetery, Nairobi.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have also recovered a panga that is suspected to have been used in the brutal murder of the victim on October 31.
According to the DCI, sufficient trace evidence has linked Hashim Dagane Muhumed to the brutal murder. Dagane, who has since been arrested, is also linked to the brutal murders of a mother, her daughter and her 12-year-old niece.
By yesterday, detectives had however not recovered the vehicle that Dagane used to ferry the body parts from an apartment in Lavington to the cemetery.
The victim had left her California estate to Lavington area where Dagane was waiting at a short-stay room.
After checking in, she went to a supermarket in the area for some shopping and paid using her mobile phone. She picked up a receipt and put it in her pocket before leaving, as caught on CCTV cameras.
At the scene where her body and some few items had been wrapped in a black paper bag and dumped, police recovered the receipt.
Constant communication
The gruesome remains were on October 31 found at the entrance of Lang’ata cemetery. The receipt later proved crucial as police visited the supermarket in Nairobi’s CBD and were able to retrieve crucial data on the customer who transacted it.
On October 24, a missing person’s report had been filed at California Police Station and the woman’s family were able to identify her and confirmed that she was the woman in the CCTV footage.
Police say an analysis of the woman’s mobile phone records revealed frequent communication with another phone number registered to Dagane.
The team is now interrogating Dagane to establish his motive and where he may have dumped the woman’s mobile phone and other valuables. This is after her family said the deceased woman’s mobile phone called them on the day the remains were discovered.
It has also been verified that after Dagane left the apartment, the owner discovered what had happened in his premises, had the rooms re-painted and thereafter went under.
