Wilson Sossion has celebrated Pressident William Ruto’s decision to appoint Kithure Kindiki as Kenya’s third deputy president, terming the move as a biggest reward on education.
Speaking during a televised interview with K24 TV on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the former secretary-general of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and former nominated member of parliament stated that politics should always consider rewarding education.
Sossion said that he was happy as a teacher to have seen Kindiki, a professor of law, get an appointment as Kenya’s second in command.
The former lawmaker argued that Kindiki has a strong education background that will be useful to the country’s public administration.
“On the appointment of Abraham Kithure Kindiki, the professor of law, and one of the youngest professors this country prides of and a brilliant young man, I think I should congratulate him. To me and him as educators, we can say this is a big reward to education. Politics must reward education, and so that has been done and I am the happiest man. The president has picked an eminent professor who comes with strong education background that is useful in the country’s public administration,” Sossion stated.

Kindiki picked as DP
President Ruto picked Kindiki as the DP following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua, whose efforts to fight for survival in the corridors of justice failed.
Gachagua’s fate was sealed when a three-judge bench set aside conservatory orders he had obtained, blocking the swearing in of Kindiki.
Kindiki was sworn-in on Friday, November 1, 2024, at a ceremony that was conducted at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
A day after his swearing-in, Kindiki together with the Head of State hosted teachers representatives at State House, Nairobi.
In a statement, Ruto confirmed the meeting with the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) led by its National Chairman Omboko Milemba.
The Head of State indicated that the meeting enabled them to deliberate on ways to improve the teachers’ welfare and also improve the country’s education quality.
“Our routine dialogue and exchange of views with education stakeholders is aimed at improving the welfare of teachers and quality of learning for our children,” Ruto stated.
