Nairobi StanChart Marathon

The 21st edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is happening today Sunday, October 27, 2024.

The 21km wheelchair race kicked off the events at 5:45 am followed by the 42km race at 6 am, the 21km will kick off at 7:20 am, the 10km at 8:45 am and the 5km fun run at 10 am.

According to Standard Chartered, over 1000 runners are competing in the 42km race.

All races will start at the Southern Bypass and finish at Uhuru Gardens along Lang’ata Road, except for the 5km, which will conclude at the Southern Bypass.

As a result of the marathon, a section of the roads in Nairobi will remain closed until 1:30 pm, today.

Nairobi County Police Superintendent Boniface Otieno detailed traffic management measures with the Southern Bypass and surrounding roads set to close from 11 pm on Saturday.

The roads affected by the temporary closure include Southern Bypass and Lang’ata Road.

Parts of Ngong Road, Mombasa Road, Likoni Road, Lenana Road, and Waiyaki Way will also be inaccessible for the duration.

The race has attracted over 25,000 participants with over 200 elite athletes.

The Standard Chartered have this morning confirmed that the marathon, which is currently underway, has attracted 25,000 participants, with 92 countries participating.

Recruitment for Qatar jobs

Hundreds of Kenyans are today October 27, 2024, expected to turn up in large numbers again, to try their lack in the recruitment exercise for Qatar jobs organized by Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua.

Mutua in a statement shared on Saturday night stated that many positions have already been filled, but noted that several other jobs are still open with interviews set for today Sunday, at Kabete National Polytechnic, only.

According to Mutua, the interviews at the Kabete National Polytechnic will kick off from as early as 8:00 am.

However, nurses will have their interviews conducted at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Mutua also stated that all positions in the hospitality sector have been filled.

Politicians in churches

Political leaders are expected to flock to different churches nationwide to attend the Sunday service.

As is the norm, the politicians are expected to take to the church pulpit to make various political remarks due to the current political tension facing the country.

They might give their opinions on the proposed Constitutions Amendment Bill, 2024, that seeks to change the political term limit from the current five years to seven.

Some might as well comment on the woes facing the impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who is fighting in court for his survival.
