Kenya’s national motocross team is gearing up for the highly anticipated FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations (MXoAN) in Marrakech, Morocco, from Friday through Sunday.

As regards the organiser’s communication, a squad of 17 riders is ready to represent the country.

Thanks to support from the Ministry of Sports, the team’s expenses, including airfare, accommodation and bike transport, will be fully covered.

Leading the charge for Kenya is multiple national champion and current MX1 series leader, Apollo Mbuki, alongside three female riders and a competitor in the Veterans Class.

In the second and final round of the FIM Africa Central African Challenge (CAC) Motocross Challenge Cup in 2023, Mbuki, alongside compatriot Alex Kandie, clinched the top spots.

For the upcoming showdown, the team was flagged off with optimism, encouraged by the Motorcycle Federation of Kenya (MSFK) to compete with enthusiasm and determination.

MSFK president Renzo expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform against some of Africa’s best riders, emphasizing that their success could earn them recognition across the continent and within Kenya.

“I know that in the championship, you will face the cream of the continent’s best, which will undoubtedly be challenging. But I urge you all to remain optimistic and compete with full spirit.”

The championship, which brings together riders from 18 African countries, will feature various classes including MX50, MX65, MX125, MX2, MX1, WMX and VMX.

Kenya’s lineup includes speedsters like Leto Tohani, and Jeremy Hawi, and MX Lite riders Ngengi Kamau and Chemain Kangogo.

Veteran rider Fredrick Yongo will compete in the Vets Class.

Kenya last hosted MXoAN in 2016 at the Jamhuri track, where Apollo Mbuki led a 1-2-3 podium finish in the MX2 class, marking a historic victory for the country.

As the team heads to Marrakech, hopes are high for a repeat of past glories.
