Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has come out to face President William Ruto head-on after being discharged from Karen Hospital.

Speaking on Sunday, October 20, 2024, Gachagua lamented that he did not envision what befell him in the last few days before he was ousted from office by impeachment.

Gachagua claimed that he did not believe President Ruto, whom he once viewed as a brother, a spiritual friend, and a confidant, could scheme to hound him out of office.

“It is unfortunate that when I was here in the hospital, my brother and friend President William Ruto ordered for the withdrawal of my security. I didn’t know President Ruto can be that vicious,” Gachagua stated.

He attributed his tribulations to speaking the truth and asking President Ruto to slow down on some policies which he viewed as regressive.

Gachagua mentioned the demolitions, affordable housing project, tax policies and Adani deal among others which he differed with his boss.

Security withdrawn

Gachagua further told the press that his security detail was withdrawn immediately after the Senate approved the impeachment motion.

While at the Karen Hospital where he was fighting for his life, Gachagua detailed that he was left with no personal security and even the government vehicles were withdrawn.

Despite the persecution, Gachagua pleaded with his boss President William Ruto to allow him to live in peace and take care of his family.

While claiming that his life is in danger, Gachagua asked the intelligence security officers to stop hovering around him and his family and allow him to live untroubled.

How he survived

At the same time, Gachagua revealed that it could have been a different story had he not rushed to Karen Hospital amidst the impeachment hearing.

“On my way to my office, I suddenly developed a very intense pain in the chest. I sat down, and the pain continued, it was very sharp. I called my doctor and described how I was feeling.

” After I stabilized, the doctors informed me that if I had been late for another 20 minutes, we would be talking about a different story, but I am okay now. A man must be able to withstand these small things,” Gachagua stated.
