The government and faith-based facilities under the Christian Hospitals Association of Kenya (CHAK) met and formed a committee to fast track the payment of pending bills owed to their facilities.

It is not established how much the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) owes the facilities, CHAK says, but it runs into billions of shillings. The meeting took place at the Ufungamano House, near the University of Nairobi.

“I came here to listen to the issues and the challenges they are facing in regard to implementation of the UHC and the new system that we are rolling out. We have heard the teething problems that they have had to face, and we as a Ministry has taken note of that,” said Medical Services PS Harry Kimtai.

The PS pleaded with the Association to give the Ministry about two weeks to resolve the challenges, which also include the SHA registration system, where the faith-based facilities has not been able to attend to patients since the transition kicked off on October 1.
