Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has shared a word of encouragement to his staff amid a heightened debate on his impeachment.

This comes amid an expected parliamentary vote which is likely to determine the DP’s fate in power.

Speaking during a church service at the National Prayer Altar in Nairobi on Sunday, October 6, 2024, Gachagua urged his employees not to be discouraged by the ongoing tribulations but instead focus on serving Kenyans with competence and commitment

“I encourage our office staff not to be discouraged, let’s just continue working because we have a duty to serve the people of Kenya equally with competence, commitment

Gachagua’s remarks followed after he issued a heartfelt apology to President William Ruto and Kenyans for any remarks and wrongdoings.

In his speech, the DP also apologised on behalf of his wife for any wrongdoings she may have made while undertaking her duties.

“I want to say to my brother, President William Ruto, if, in our zeal to work, I have wronged you, please find it in your heart to forgive me,” the DP said.

“If my spouse in her duties with the boychild has wronged you in any way, please find it in your heart to forgive her.”

The second-in-command added that his sustained habit of appreciating voters may have brought him trouble as some people may have misinterpreted his gesture.

“Probably you find that in appreciating our people and the support they gave the president and I, probably our utterances made you feel uncomfortable,” the DP said

“We did not mean bad; we were appreciating the people who voted for us. If you feel that we rubbed you the wrong way, please find it in your heart to forgive me.”
