Saboti constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has urged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to consider resigning ahead of his impeachment hearing.
Taking to his official X account on Monday, October 7, 2024, Amisi stated that resignation is the only better option left for DP Gachagua at the moment.
Amisi on Gachagua’s impeachment
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker further argued that the prevailing circumstances might not favour Gachagua during the highly anticipated hearing of his impeachment case set for Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
Amisi went ahead to urge all public officers to embrace resignation whenever Kenyans lose confidence in them.
“Within the prevailing circumstances, resignation is the best option. Kenyan public officers must learn to resign when citizens lose confidence in you! Start off the journey for others . Next culprit, please!” the lawmaker stated.

Gachagua impeachment hearing
The hearing of Gachagua’s impeachment has sparked significant attention as the DP faces allegations that could impact his political career, should he get impeached.
The second in command is set to appear before the parliament on Tuesday, October 8, to respond to the allegations leveled against him.
Gachagua asks for forgiveness
Gachagua on Sunday, October 6, sought forgiveness from Kenyans, President William Ruto and Members of Parliament.
Speaking at a prayer meeting at his residence, Gachagua expressed confidence in the judiciary, calling Kenya a “country of the rule of law.”
He urged Kenyans to remain peaceful regardless of the outcome of ongoing political events.
“I have faith in our judiciary. We have competent men and women who I believe will uphold the Constitution, protect it, and safeguard the will of the people,” Gachagua stated.
He also called for unity and peace among Kenyans amid current political challenges.
Addressing MPs, Gachagua apologized for any offense he may have caused.
“To the MPs, if through our utterances and actions we have upset or wronged you, find it in your heart to forgive me. To the people of Kenya, if I did anything unacceptable, forgive me,” he pleaded.
The Deputy President also sought forgiveness from President Ruto, saying, “I want to ask my brother Ruto that if I have wronged him in any way, please find it in your heart to forgive me. If my spouse and her programme have wronged you, forgive her.”
