President William Ruto believes that the success of the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti will improve Kenya’s image globally.

Ruto made the remarks after he paid a visit to the Kenyan officers who are in the Caribbean nation in an attempt to restore stability. The president interacted with the policemen and told them that he carried with him greetings from their families and colleagues back in Kenya.

“I bring you warm greetings from your families, the National Police Service, and all Kenyans. They have sent me to let you know that we are all very proud of you, hope that you are doing well, and wish you success in this mission.

“As you do your part to enable the MSS to restore security in Haiti, you will also be indirectly enhancing Kenya’s global profile by enabling it to discharge its humanitarian obligations and fulfill its international commitments.

“When I flagged you off, I mandated you, on behalf of the people of Kenya, to be exemplary ambassadors of Kenya and its iconic brand, represented by courage, professionalism, selflessness, compassion, and efficiency. I have, therefore, made this visit before attending the 79th UN General Assembly to check on your progress,” Ruto said.

Progress

Ruto said he is motivated by the progress the mission has so far achieved, despite initial scepticism it met.

“I am proud to observe that upon deployment, you promptly commenced operations, consistently exceeded expectations in the performance of your duties, and exhibited courage, integrity, and professionalism.

“As a consequence of your exemplary service and contributions to the multinational security support operation, the country’s security has significantly improved, its critical infrastructure is much safer, populations are returning home, humanitarian access has increased, and abductions have decreased.

“As you will recall, your deployment was initially met with scepticism, criticism, and pessimism. Because of your competence, professionalism, and effectiveness in executing your mandate, this mission now enjoys strong national support. Your exemplary conduct has borne fruit and made the country proud,” he added.

The Head of State said that the mission has attracted praise across the globe and that the force commander has been commended by both the Haitian government and international partners.

“This is all well deserved, and you should feel proud and encouraged to do even more to restore security and safety for our brothers and sisters to enjoy opportunities and pursue their dreams in peace.

“I also wish to appreciate you for the resilience you demonstrated by achieving such impressive success with minimal equipment. Without a doubt, you will do even better and go much farther when more equipment and resources become available,” he continued.

Ruto promised that possible measures to maintain a positive spirit and facilitate the officer’s success will be taken.
