Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
Ruto Kisii tour
President William Ruto is expected to kick off his tour of Kisii County today Monday, August 12, 2024.
The Head of State who left the country on Sunday, August 11, 2024 to attend Rwandan President Paul Kagame’s inauguration is expected to land in Kisii at about 4pm.
President Ruto is expected to spend three days in Kisii, after concluding his tour of Mt. Kenya region last week.
He will embark on a three-day development tour of Kisii and Nyamira Counties.
This is the first time that the President will be visiting the region in eight months with his latest trip expected to see him traverse nearly all the constituencies.
The latest tour comes after his latest dalliance with opposition leader Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party and the formation of his broad-based Government of National Unity.
Power blackout
Kenya Power has announced a planned electricity disruption affecting five counties on Monday, August 12, 2024.
In a customer notice on Sunday, August 11, 2024, the power transmission company indicated that the outage would start from 9 A.M to 5 P.M.
According to the utility firm, the outage is to allow for routine maintenance of its system.
The counties to be affected are Nairobi, Homa Bay, Neri, Murang’a and Kiambu.
Fate of Jimi Wanjigi’s casual workers
A Nairobi court is today expected to decide the fate of two casual workers, Dancun Odhiambo Otieno and Calvin Ocheing’ Odongo, who were arrested at the home of businessman Jimi Wanjigi when the police made a raid last week.
The two were arrested from a vehicle that was found parked outside the gate of the Safina Party Leader’s home in Muthaiga, with police saying that they were in possession of four hand grenades.
The court will decide on whether to allow request by the police to continue detaining the duo for 14 days to allow conclusion of investigation, or free them on bond.
