More than four people were arrested last week over possession of drug substances, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives seizing drugs whose street value is more than Ksh1.6 million.

DCI had declared war on drugs and traffickers earlier this year, and working on their declaration, the institution has managed to crack down drug dens and round up tons of hard drugs including bhang, cocaine, heroin and other drugs, trying to combat drug trafficking in the country.

Last Thursday, undercover detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) arrested a drug trafficker masquerading as a passenger and seized their drugs.

The suspect, Bioma Alice Gbassay from Sierra Leone, a drug trafficker disguising herself as a normal passenger, was intercepted at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by the ANU detectives who then recovered 1,080 grams of cocaine from her bag.

The suspect was passing through the security checks when the DCI’s detectives caught her. Upon her arrival in Kenya en route to Mumbai, Bioma was escorted to the immigration offices where her luggage was picked up from the baggage hall and was taken to the Anti-narcotics office.

After a meticulous search of her body and luggage, the detectives recovered suspected narcotic drugs hidden in various places. From her inner garments, a whitish substance wrapped with clear tape was recovered. Further, two slabs of dove soap concealing a suspicious powdery substance were also recovered in her luggage.
