Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has been compelled to intervene after hundreds of people marched to his office on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
The Governor was forced to walk out of his office and accompanied some of the country officials to address the irate demonstrators who had pitched camp at his office.
After meeting the protesters outside the gate of his office, Governor Sang calmed them down by addressing some of their issues.
While chanting his name and expressing their outrage, the protesters demanded an audience with their governor.

Most of the protesters wanted Governor Sang to address the issue of delayed implementation of major projects. The demonstrators who were mostly youth, hoisted placards and twigs listed some of the projects which they accused the governor of failing to implement on time.
They also expressed their outrage calling out the governor for failing to implement critical projects.
Sang forced to come out
After hours of protesting outside the governor’s office, Sang was compelled to come out and address the irate demonstrators.
While addressing the protesters, the governor vowed to heed the demands of the protesters and stated that he was ready to engage them.
“I am ready to engage with you in a dialogue and you have the right to be heard. I have come here because you Gen Zs should be heard by the government.
“I want you to tell me in what way we can engage in a meaningful dialogue,” Sang added.

Ruto calls for dialogue
This comes amid calls for multi-sectoral dialogue to address the issues bedevilling the country. Speaking on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, President William Ruto announced that the dialogue will commence on Monday, July 15, 2024.
Ruto said the forum will encompass 150 members, 50 of them youth, while 100 will be drawn from religious institutions, civil society, professional organisations and political parties, among other stakeholders.
President Ruto said participants in the forum will bear their costs in line with the government’s policy of austerity.
“We have had consultations and agreed that, to bring the country together to focus on the issues of priority, we will move ahead with the multisectoral forum,” he said.
Ruto welcomed political parties and all other stakeholders to work with the government in forging a new path for the country.
“As a way of charting the future from the current situation, I welcome all leaders and other stakeholders to work together to address the current economic situation through a broad-based political arrangement and to rally the country forward,” he added.
