Regional leaders at Moi’s memorial service
Retired and current heads of state from neighbouring countries attended the memorial service for Kenya’s retired president Daniel Moi on Tuesday.
President Uhuru Kenyatta received the regional leaders at State House, Nairobi before following the military procession to Nyayo Stadium.
President Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Paul Kagame(Rwanda), Silva Kiir(South Sudan) paid their tribute at Nyayo Stadium led by their host Uhuru Kenyatta.
Ethiopia’s President Sahle-Work Zewde was also present.
Retired Tanzania president Jakaya Kikwete and his predecessor Benjamin Mkapa arrived at the Stadium minutes before Uhuru’s convoy.
Deputy President William Ruto received the regional heads and former presidents at the event.
Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho had earlier revealed the plans to receive the regional leaders.
“Our preparations at the moment are for 10 heads of state, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will release more details later,”said Kibicho
