One-man, one-vote, one-shilling

After Raila Odinga supported Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over the one-man, one-vote, one-shilling call for resource allocation, politicians are set to react.

Gachagua has been at the forefront of pushing for the economic formula, which he believes will help the Mount Kenya region and the latest support from Raila is expected to ruffle feathers and garner support from other quarters.

Raila said that his desire is to see each Kenyan get a fair share of resources and that this is a conversation that the nation must have.

“We want to ensure that each and every Kenyan gets a fair share of resources. This is what it is. It cannot be right that some children should get more money as bursaries than other children in other parts of the country,” he said.

“This is a conversation that, if we have it openly, we will be able to convince the majority of our people that that is the right way to go, and that is why we proposed it in the BBI. We want to ensure that each and every Kenyan is treated fairly, and that is why we agree with this ‘one man, one vote, one shilling.’ I totally agree with it. It may not be popular in some quarters, but let us have this conversation,” Raila told the press on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

Raila’s take on the issue is expected to add more synergy to the debate, especially now that there is deemed to be a fallout between Gachagua and his boss, President William Ruto.

Harambee Stars WCQ duel

Harambee Stars are set to take on Burundi at the Bingu National Stadium in Malawi in a 2026 World Cup qualifying duel on Friday, June 7, 2024.

This is the third qualifier Kenya is playing in the group, and they would hope to secure the second win after beating the Seychelles in the previous one.

Ahead of the game, the team’s captain, Michael Olunga, exuded confidence, even though he believes the game will not be easy.

“It won’t be an easy game. If you look at Burundi’s previous matches, they lost 3-2 and won 2-1, showing they are a strong team with good players. However, we are hopeful that we will play well, and each player will give their best to achieve good results,” Olunga said.

The match will start at 4:00 p.m. Kenyan time.
