Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

Tree planting initiative

The Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs staff will spearhead a community tree-planting initiative at Kangaita Forest in Kirinyaga County.

This event follows a similar activity led by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy, and Sports Kenya, with Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba at the helm, alongside Ministry staff, agencies, and the local community.

Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya participated in the recent tree-growing exercise, joining forces with the sports fraternity.

These weekly tree-planting activities are part of the ambitious 15 Billion National Tree Growing Programme, aiming to significantly increase Kenya’s forest cover.

Kenya Power token system upgrade

Kenya Power has initiated a major upgrade to its prepaid token vending system, resulting in a temporary suspension of token purchases.

This upgrade, designed to enhance service quality, involves a 24-hour system downtime, affecting prepaid customers nationwide.

The suspension, which has began and will extend until 10:00 pm on Monday, June 3, 2024 and it impacts all vending points, including Kenya Power offices, M-PESA Paybill number 888880, Airtel Money, and various banking channels.

During this period, customers will are unable to purchase electricity tokens.

Harambee Stars in Malawi

The Harambee Stars have commenced their training sessions in Malawi, preparing for the World Cup Qualifier home matches scheduled for June.

The team departed Kenya early Sunday morning and arrived in Malawi six hours later. Their training kicked off with the first session on Sunday, and they will continue to train on Monday.

The Harambee Stars are set to play against Burundi on June 7 and Ivory Coast on June 11 at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, Malawi.

Although these are home matches, the games will be held in Malawi due to the ongoing renovations at Nyayo National Stadium and Kasarani Stadium, the only two stadiums in Kenya provisionally approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for international matches.

These renovations are in preparation for the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN) and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya will co-host with Tanzania and Uganda.
