Posta Rangers broke their six-match losing streak in the FKF Premier League on Tuesday, securing a 1-0 victory against FC Talanta at Dandora Stadium.
The fixture was part of matchday 28, initially postponed due to adverse weather conditions rendering Machakos Stadium unplayable over the weekend.
Posta Rangers struggles
Before this match, Posta Rangers had struggled, failing to win in their previous five encounters, conceding 14 goals while scoring only once.
Despite a promising start to the season, where they appeared as potential title contenders, their form had dipped significantly since February 17, their last victory against Ulinzi Stars, secured by Felix Okoth’s penalty.
FC Talanta also faced challenges, winning just two of their last 12 matches in the league. However, it was Patrick Otieno who made the decisive contribution, netting the solitary goal of the match in the 31st minute.
The win propelled Posta Rangers to 42 points, with 12 wins, six draws, and 10 losses. They’ve scored 28 goals while conceding 38. Meanwhile, FC Talanta sits in 14th place with 30 points, having endured 12 draws and 10 losses.
In the early kick-off, Nairobi City Stars staged a comeback to secure a 1-1 draw against Ulinzi Stars, ending City Stars’ two-match winning streak. Ulinzi Stars, winless in their last three matches, had taken the lead through Boniface Muchiri in the 23rd minute. However, Vincent Owino equalized for City Stars in the 71st minute, with no further changes to the scoreline.
City Stars draw
The draw leaves Nairobi City Stars in fourth place on the log with 46 points from 28 matches, boasting 13 wins, seven draws, and eight losses. Ulinzi Stars occupies the 13th position with 31 points, accumulating eight wins, seven draws, and 13 losses.
On Monday, Tusker FC secured a 1-0 victory over Nzoia Sugar despite playing with 10 men for most of the match.
Brian Bwire’s outstanding performance, including a penalty save, earned him the Man of the Match title. James Kibande scored the winning goal in the 79th minute.
Tusker’s win solidified their position in third place in the league standings, trailing second-placed Police FC by two points.
