Road closures, reopenings

The heavy rainfall has caused significant damage to roads across Kenya, leading to temporary closures.

The Kenya Highway National Authority is working to reopen several roads to restore transportation links.

However, with the continuous downpour, more closures are likely in the coming days, disrupting travel and affecting access to essential services.

Doctors’ Strike Continues

The ongoing strike by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has now extended for over a month, with no resolution in sight.

The union’s secretary general, Davji Attellah, stated that the doctors would not sign a return-to-work agreement that doesn’t meet their demands.

Efforts by the government to end the strike have not been successful, with the union accusing the government of using threats and pressure to force them into signing an incomplete agreement.

The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) has on the other hand warned of a potential strike in the coming week if their demands are not met.

The union is protesting against the refusal of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission and the Public Service Commission to honor court orders regarding the extension of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) staff contracts under controversial terms.

The looming strike by nurses could further complicate the healthcare crisis, impacting Kenyans seeking medical attention.

Kenya Defence Forces Games

The Kenya Defence Force Bora Cup Challenge and the 44th Edition of the AKDF Track and Field Championship are set to take place from Monday, May 6, to May 8 at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.
