Soy United have strongly condemned the disturbing incident that occurred during their match against Kona Rangers, where two of their fans were roughed up and injured.

The chaos erupted at Musemwa Primary School in Likuyani after a goal was ruled out for offside by the referees.

In a statement, Soy United revealed that the home fans confronted the line-woman, demanding the goal to be awarded.

Photos shared by the club depicted the injuries sustained by the fans during the ensuing scuffles, along with an alarming image of a fan carrying a power saw machine during the match.

Expressing their dismay, Soy United emphasized that football is about friendship and should serve as a universal language.

“Football is about friendship, it’s a universal language. So many monumental derbies end in salutations after the normal build-up and match day banter,” the statement reads.

The club lamented the disruption caused by rogue home fans, which marred what was supposed to be an exciting derby.

“The scenes witnessed today at Musemwa Primary School, leave a bad taste in the mouth of the neutral football fan. With less than two minutes to play, a section of rogue home fans disrupted play by accosting a lineswoman after a clearance off the line, demanding it be awarded as a goal.

“What was an exciting Derby turned bloody with Kona Rangers FC fans injuring our ardent followers in the fracas. One of their fans was captured carrying a power saw machine in the act of violence,” the statement added.

Soy United commitment

Soy United reiterated their commitment to promoting peaceful cohesion in the sport and called for the incident to be addressed with the utmost seriousness.

They urged for measures to prevent such occurrences in the future, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity and spirit of the game.

“As Soy United FC, we condemn the act with the strongest terms possible and would like advice promotion of peaceful cohesion in the sport going forward,” the statement concluded.
