Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
In courts
Suspects accused of trafficking narcotics will appear before a judge today to take a plea.
George Laban Ogutu Ogangira, Yahya Abdullahi Songolo and Sharon Wanjira were arrested last week after being caught ferrying bhang.
The trio was arrested in a sting operation led by Anti-narcotics detectives.
During the arrest, detectives working with the Operations Support Unit intercepted the vehicle they were using along Ongata Rongai near Multimedia University.
Upon the inspection of the vehicles, detectives found four bales of bhang stashed in two sacks.
The detectives further continued the search to Laban’s home where they found two more bales of bhang.
“Three suspects of trafficking in narcotics are set to plead to the charge on Thursday 7th March 2024 following their interception and arrest last week in a sting operation by Anti-narcotics detectives.
“George Laban Ogutu Ogangira, Yahya Abdullahi Songolo and Sharon Wanjira Mburu were arrested along Ongata Rongai Road near Multimedia University when the motor vehicle they were using, a KAV 298H Toyota Corolla was intercepted by the team augmented by the Operations Support Unit,” a statement by DCI read in parts.
Power interruptions
Kenya Power on Wednesday announced planned power interruptions that will affect five counties today.
In the update, the company stated that the power interruption is necessary to facilitate the maintenance and upgrade of power lines to the network.
The counties that will be affected today include Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nyeri, Kiambu and Kirinyaga.
In Elgeyo Marakwet, the affected areas include; Murkutwo, Chesongoch, Kapkobil, Kabetwa, Tot, Tot Mango Factory, Soko Bora, Barberi, Chebilil, Sangach, Samballat, Liter & adjacent customers.
The mentioned areas will experience power interruptions from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Nandi areas that will be affected by the blackout from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm include; Kapchebisir, Tulon, Kapkagaron, Kipchuno, Tulon Sec, Lolmengengai, Tulon Quarry, Lutieti & adjacent customers.
Parts of yeri that will be affected by the blackout from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm include Gikondi, Muthuthini, Kaharo & adjacent customers.
Similarly, the blackout in Kiambu will affect areas such as Kisii Est, Leather Industries, Landless, Thika Barracks, Macheo, Gatuanyaga, Salama, Pakjel & adjacent customers.
Other areas include; Farmers Choice Factory, Palak Steel Mills, Carbacid Fact, Kijabe Boys, Kijabe Hosp, Uplands Police Stn, Nyambare, Githironi, Nyamweru, Murengeti, Mutosi, Kinyogori, Gititha, Kimeende, Lari, Magina, Kinale, Soko Mjinga, Kamae, Mathore, Kijabe, Escarpment, Kabunge, Kijabe & adjacent customers.
The mentioned areas will experience blackout from 9:00 to 5:00 pm.
In Kirinyaga the blackout will affect areas such as Thiba Pri & Sec, Thiba Maendeleo, Thiba Soweto, Thiba North, Thiba South, Thiba H/Center, Thiba Chief’s Camp, Karima, Mbui Njeru, Rurumi Block & adjacent customers from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
