Shock as frustrated patient, 72, kills self
A frustrated patient shot himself dead at the Mater Hospital, Nairobi as he was waiting for drugs on Monday evening in unclear circumstances.
Police said the deceased identified as Abdala Mohamed, 72, had been brought to the emergency section when he shot himself in the chin.
He was a licenced gun holder. Police and hospital officials said the deceased had been rushed there aboard a private car when the incident happened.
By then, the drugs he was to use were not at the emergency area and plans were being made for their delivery.
“He was undergoing treatment at the emergency section and as he was waiting for drugs, he made a call and immediately got angry and withdrew his firearm,” police said.
He shot himself in the chin blowing up his head, police and witnesses said.
His driver who had brought him and was taking care of him then rushed out calling for help and he later succumbed while being attended to.
Detectives are investigating the incident. A check at the scene established that the deceased’s car was damaged by the bullet, indicating he was still waiting in the car at the emergency area, police said.
The deceased lived in the nearby Golden Gate Estate in South B.
In another case, Edward Mwangi, 23, died by suicide in Kiirugi, Mukurweini by hanging himself from the roof of his bedroom.
