Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
Former NLC chairperson charged with graft
Former Chairperson of the National Lands Commission (NLC) Mohammed Swazuri’s graft case is set for mention at the Milimani Anti-corruption Court today.
Swazuri alongside 16 others was charged with abuse of office, offence of corruption and unlawful acquisition of public property.
The charges relate to fraud which caused a loss of public funds belonging to Kenya Railways Corporation in the sum of Ksh221.4 million.
Ruling of Koech’s graft case
The ruling of a graft case against Henry Maritim Koech and 5 others will happen today at the Anti-Corruption Court in Eldoret.
The six were charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption and deceiving principal.
The charges relate to the embezzlement of public funds amounting to Ksh12.2 million for tenders awarded to Makiki Agencies LTD for road upgrading and construction within Nandi county.
Power interruptions
Kenya Power on Wednesday announced scheduled power interruptions that will affect 7 counties today.
In a statement, the company stated that the scheduled interruptions are meant to facilitate maintenance and upgrade of power lines to the network.
The counties, Nairobi, Homa Bay, Embu, Meru, Mombasa, Kitui and Kiambu will be affected from 9 am to 5 pm.
In Nairobi, the interruption will cause a blackout in Nairobi Gate Industrial Park, Parts of Rossylyn and Kitsuru, Kitsuru Ridge, Gathiga, Manga Gardens, Kihara Estate, Lakeview Dry, Mutundu Estate, Ngecha Road, Rossyln Close, Thigiri Groove, Nyari, Redhill Drive and adjacent customers.
The areas will be affected from 9 am to 1 pm.
Other areas that will be affected in Nairobi include; Part of Karen Road, Part of Langata Road, Grange Park, Karen Plains, AP Camp, Forest View, Lower Plains, Ndege Road, Ndege Lane, Korongo Road, Karen Hospital, Karen Ridge and adjacent customers.
Parts of Joska such as Ruai Shopping Center, Ruai Police Station, Ruai DC’s office, Githunguri Estate, Quickmart Supermarket, Mwamba Estate, Block 10 Estate, Makongeni Estate, Stage 26, Twinbrid Estate, Kipawa Estate, Made in the Street Estate, Kingoris Estate, Kamulu Town, Reflector Estate, Patnet Steel, Brookshine School, Ngundu and adjacent customers will also go without electricity from 9 am to 5 pm.
In Homa Bay, the blackout will affect areas such as Ongalo, Oyuma, Osika, Nyakongo, Alego Kamser, Pala, Sombro, Nyagwete, Aros, Moi University, St. Vincent Jonyo, Koriko, Mainuga Beach, Doho Beach, Ngeta, Sanda, Kanyakutu and adjacent customers from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm.
Meanwhile in Embu, areas that will be affected from 9 am to 4 pm include; Kwetu, Mikuuri Market, Itabua Secondary School, Njumbiri Village, Kambo Village and Market, Bishop Mbui, Nduva, Kimangaru Village and Market, Gikingiri and adjacent customers.
In Meru county, the blackout expected to stary from 9 am to 5 pm will affect areas such as Part of Kinoru Estate, Njeru Industries, Teraha, KCB Makutano, Kenya Ree Estate, Kambakia Sisters, Jordan Hospital, Gitoro Primary, Rocky, Mboroga, Sera Park Hotel, Kiirua Poluce, Kirachine, Kiirua Hospital and Market, Kiirua Technical, Ntugi Market, Machaka, Kinyenjere, Marinya and adjacent customers.
Mombasa areas that will be affected include; ; Transpares, Corrugated Sheets, Owino Uhuru, Sea Harvetst, Mikindani Estate, Kitui Flour Mills, Kwa Shee, Kwa Mwanzia, Kenchick, Benvick, Fossil Fuels, Kajembe Secondary School, Mikindani Catholic Church, Mnazi Mmoja, White Castle Hotel, Kongowea Ndogo, Metro, Kula Unone, Mikindani Primary School, Mikindani Sub-County Offices, Scope, Great Lakes, Doshi Ironmongers and adjacent customers.
The areas will be affected from 9 am to 5 pm.
Similarly in Kiambu, the interruptions will affect areas such as New Wood Est, Kalimoni Sec, Star of Hope Est, Kwa Woria, Bristar Girls Sch, Theta Hotel, Faith Est, Gate C, St. Peters Sch, Parts of Gachororo, Juja Police Stn, Elmark Est, Juja Main Stage, Green Field Est, Juja Sewage, Juja South, Juja Modern Hosp, Kanini Farm Est, Kenyatta Rd, Turraco Village, Superhighway Est & adjacent customers from 9 am to 5 pm.
In Kitu, the blackout scheduled to start from 9 am to 5 pm will affect areas such as Mayuni, Kasanga, Thitha, Ngongoni, Yenzuva, Mavui, Kavenge, Endei, Kalamba, Kyondoni, Kwa Jumbo, Kisiki, Thatha, Sofia, Ndalani, Itunduimoni, Katheka, Kyasyoni, Kithyoko, Kanyonyo, Matuu Town & adjacent customers.
