More leaders from the North Rift counties were on Monday grilled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Rift Valley regional offices in Nakuru.

The grilling comes at the backdrop of increasing banditry activity in the volatile region, which has left several people dead in the last one month.

Among those grilled yesterday included Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, Kacheliba MP Titus Lotee, Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto and their Pokot South counterpart Ekwom Nabuin.

The DCI had on Thursday last week grilled more leaders from the region among them Samburu Governor Lati Lelelit, West Pokot Deputy Governor Robert Komole and Tiaty MP William Kamket.

Yesterday, hundreds of residents of Turkana and West Pokot counties camped outside the DCI offices in solidarity with their leaders.

Addressing the crowd, Governor Lomorukai said that they honoured the summons in respect to the rule of law and government officials.

“Unfortunately some of our neighbours do not respect the rule of law. They have continued to attack our people and security officers including GSU and KDF officers,” said Lomorukai.

The governor revealed that the summons were linked to some of the leaders’ sentiments which the government viewed as inciting the communities.

“I will never tell or organize Turkanas to attack our neighbours. My name was included in this list by people who only want to soil my name,” said the governor.

Lomorukai added that they had high hopes in President William Ruto and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki citing that the ongoing security operation was gradually marking success.
