Land Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has fires two officers from her ministry over allegations of aiding private investors to grab public land.

The officers from Nairobi county are accused of aiding private investors to grab public land and giving false information in a court of law that helped another private investor grab public land.

While putting on notice land grabbers, Wahome (pictured) who spoke after touring a ‘cemetery’ in Thika which is at the centre of a standoff between a private developer and sand sellers warned public officers aiding in the grabbing of public land that they would be fired and prosecuted.

“There is a female officer in our ministry and others who facilitated issuance of documents to aid the grabbers in the grabbing of this land. We will fire them from Monday! There is another officer based in Nairobi who gave false information in court to aid grabbing. He will also leave my ministry and I have handed him over to my PS to undertake disciplinary action,” said Wahome.

“All those who will be involved in such dealings, they will be prosecuted and fired.

This will not be tolerated under my watch,” added the CS. The CS resolved the standoff between a private developer and sand sellers who have been claiming ownership of a 50-acre piece of land that has over the years been used as a public cemetery at Gatitu area of Thika Town in Kiambu county saying that government records indicate that the parcel is a public land and that the documents with the claimants are fake.

“We will not allow them to steal what belongs to the government. I, therefore, announce that police officers who have been manning this site, leave the place as fast as you can. When you return, it will be by a letter from your minister. This land will be used for cemetery purposes and those who have been selling sand from here can continue doing so,” she said.

Thika Town MP Alice Wambui Ng’ang’a warned grabbers that they have no escape route as the current government is keen on restoring all illegally grabbed public property.

“Your days are numbered and the government is ensuring that all public property is restored back for public use. Those faking title deeds, stop wasting your time and money. If you know you are a grabber, even those at Ngoingwaleave government land immediately,” she said.
