FKF issues notice for NEC meeting to discuss elections, finances and 2024 activities
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have convened a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on January 6 to discuss several things.
According to a circular signed by FKF CEO Barry Otieno, the meeting, which will deliberate on a host of issues among them the FKF activities for 2024, FIFA update, the forthcoming federation elections, and the financial status of the federation, will be held at the federation’s Goal Project offices in Nairobi.
“Dear Executives, following consultations with the FKF President, you are hereby invited to a National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for Saturday, January 6, 2024,” read part of the statement, adding: “The meeting will take place at the FKF Goal Project offices, commencing at 10:00 am.
“The agenda of the meeting will be as follows; FKF activities, FIFA update, FKF election matters, FKF financial status. Kindly, accept Dear Sirs, Madams, our utmost gratitude for your continued support.”
The move by FKF comes just a week after a member of the NECwho has been rebelious on the regime, raised concerns about how the federation led by Nick Mwendwa had violated its constitution. Muriithi Nabea, the NEC member from Eastern, raised the issues in a letter addressed to FIFA’s Director of Member Associations (Africa), Gelson Fernandes.
The letter questioned FKF’s failure to hold both general meetings and NEC meetings as mandated by Articles 13, 29, and 38(1), the federation’s engagement in contracts without the approval of the NEC, contravening Article 21(2) of the FKF constitution and coaching appointments to national teams that occurred without NEC approval, a direct violation of Article 39(J).
Meanwhile, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said he wants Lionel Messi to play at the 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia – even though he will be 47 years old.
Infantino had been asked whether he believed the Argentine icon would play at the next World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico in 2026.
The FIFA president replied with humour and suggested he would like to see Messi keep playing until the tournament is held in Saudi Arabia in 2034, even though the Argentina captain would be touching 50.
