Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet has shattered the women’s 5-kilometre world record during the annual Cursa dels Nassos road race held on Sunday, December 31, 2023.

Chebet clocked 14:13 at the Cursa dels Nassos race in Barcelona, beating the previous record by 17 seconds.

This comes weeks days after she won a gold medal at the inaugural World Athletics Road Running Championships in Riga in October.

All the top four finishers surpassed the former world record. Ethiopia’s Ejgayehu Taye Haylu clinched second place with a time of 14:21, followed by Kenya’s Lilian Kasait Rengeruk at 14:25.

Joy Cheptoyek, also from Kenya, was fourth after clocking 14:27.
