Kakamega Homeboyz will be out to heap pressure on FKF Premier League table leaders Gor Mahia when they take on AFC Leopards in a top fixture at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

The chase for the league title took another twist after Match Day 14 when Abana Beingo leap-frogged Posta Rangers to the second spot on the 18-team table and with K’Ogalo also playing on Sunday against FC Talanta at Kasarani Stadium, Homeboyz will be keen to keep the pace with the champions against the struggling Ingwe.

As it stands, Gor Mahia are sitting top with 29 points, one more than Homeboyz, while Posta, who will host Muhoroni Youth at Machakos Stadium on Sunday, are third with 26 points. Defeat for K’Ogalo against Talanta and a win for Homeboyz against Ingwe will see the Kakamega-based outfit take control of the log.

Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo, however, refused to be drawn into the title race insisting they are taking it a game at a time. “We started the season badly but who knew we would be where we are now, we are not thinking of the title yet, we are taking it a game at a time and our focus is the game against AFC,” Odhiambo told People Sports.

Ingwe will head into the fixture having lost their last assignment 2-1 against Bidco United, their fifth defeat of the campaign that saw them drop to position 15th with 11 points. In the last six matches between the two sides in all competitions, Homeboyz have the upper hand as they have won three, AFC have one win while two matches have ended in draws.

Last season, Homeboyz eliminated AFC Leopards from the FKF Shield Cup at the semi-final stage after a 2-1 victory and went on to win the trophy.
