Wiper party leader and Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has announced that he will be contesting for presidency in the 2027 election.

Speaking during a fundraiser at Kyua Catholic church in Yatta, Machakos county on Saturday, Kalonzo expressed confidence that he would receive backing from the Azimio co-principals to unseat president William Ruto in 2027.

He expressed confidence in clinching the top-seat position and reiterated that Azimio huncho Raila Odinga should support him.

“Raila has to support me this time round. During the 2022 polls, you told me to rally alone. Leaders came and told me to support Raila’s bid close to a week’s time to the ballot and I did exactly so and we are still together,” Kalonzo stated.

“Our brother (Raila) spoke his mind and we are still walking together na haturudi nyuma we aren’t going back,” he added.

Kalonzo also criticized Ruto’s administration noting that it had lost a sense of direction owing to the ‘questionable’ policies fronted. He also lauded the catholic church for standing firm to voice the concerns of Kenyans.

“I want to thank the catholic bishops, they have stood for the truth, in fact, I am now seeing the church being what it used to be during Ndingi Mwana Nzeki. When the situation got worse, he stood firm. I see that my brother Bishop Martin Kivuva and the Episcopal team issued a strong statement in Nakuru as a Catholic Church. If we don’t speak the truth, the country can get into problems… heko kwa wanakatoliki,” Kalonzo added.

His sentiments were echoed by Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti who affirmed that the wiper party leader should contest for presidency. She also noted that preparations were underway for Kalonzo to take over as the country’s president in the 2027 general election.

“We speak to so many people in this country and they are telling us ukijipanga, hii kiti ya president utachukua, sasa tumeanza kujipanga hakuna kurudi nyuma,” she added.
