Kenya’s Women Ladies Hockey Team-Blades ended their South Africa odyssey with a 3-1 win against Ghana Sunday in the third place playoffs to clinch Bronze in the African Hockey Road to Paris 2024 qualifiers.

The Blades avenged their 2022 loss to the West Africans with two goals in a span of 10 minutes and had a couple of good save s off their goalkeepers well. Kenya had lost to another West African nation Nigeria 1-0 in the semi-finals Friday and needed a good finish in Pretoria.

Goals from veteran Caroline Guchu-3rd minute,Naomi Kemunto-7th minute and Eleanor Chebet in the 33rd minute was sufficient for Kenya.This was a double for the side who had earlier won 3-2 against the West Africans in the preliminary stages. Kenya’s Flavia Mutiva was named Player of the Match.Ghana’s consolation goal came off Mavis Berko in the 10th minute as she led the charts with six goals.

Kenya defeated Zambia 4-0, Ghana 3-2 in addition to their 1-0 win against Namibia to finish top of Group B. Meshack Senge’s side were a much improved team with clinical attacks in the final third of the opponents having scored two penalty corners and one field goal.

Meanwhile the Mens’ team finished in a disappointing sixth place at the Paris 2024 Qualifiers in what was a difficult outing. The team failed to go beyond preliminary stages with a tight 4-3 loss to Nigeria in the fifth place classification playoffs Saturday. The trio of Festus Onyango,Cliff Omari and Danstone Wabwire were the scores for Team Kenya in the highly thrilling duel.Kenya bowed out of the Paris Olympic Games qualifiers on Wednesday when they lost 3-1 to Ghana in a penultimate preliminary group match.

Kenya Men began the Qualifirers with a 2-0 loss to Egypt before silencing Namibia by a close 1-0. They followed up their win against Namibia by winning 2-1 against Zimbabwe.
