Fatuma ”Iron Fist” Zarika, Kenya’s most prolific female boxer of the modern age, has thrown down the gauntlet ahead of her  World Boxing Association (WABA) intercontinental title fight against  Fatuma Omari of Tanzania at Broad Walk Mall in Parklands tomorrow.

“I do not want to pre-empt as to which round Omari shall kiss the canvas but rest assured that I shall ultimately be declared the winner. I have changed my tactics ever since I won the World Boxing Federation (WBC) title and hope this shall work to my advantage,’’ said Zarika who is also the World Boxing Federation (WBF) title holder.

”Let Kenyan boxing fans turn up in large numbers and watch just what is the up the sleeves of the mother of all boxers in Kenya and trust me, I won’t disappoint,” said Zarika moments after betting platform Betika doled out Sh4.5 Million sponsorship for one of the bouts convened by Ultra Fight Boxing Promotion.

Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) president Reuben Ndolo who presided over the presentation of the financial backing said the fight was informed by fruitful talks he had with WABA officials and especially given Zarika’s alluring form in the bare-chested game lately.

“Zarika is our champion and it was only fair that we negotiated for her to take a stab at a continental title. She has been a role model to many,” said Ndolo.

In yet another title fight, Kenya’s Albert Kimari will slug Grey Chimkwapulo of Malawi for the vacant for WABA intercontinental bantamweight crown.

In the meantime, Omari was pretty concise in her fight against Zarika pre-bout only saying: “My opponent is in for a rough ride. She is not strange to me and she should expect a beating,” asserted Omari who has been sprucing up for the fight in Tanzanian capital Dar-es-Salaam.
