Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said the government is working to improve connectivity and decongest cities and urban areas projects that are open to private investments.

To ensure seamless connectivity and improve coverage of the rail network across Kenya and the region, he said government has committed to construction of the remaining phases of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) phase 2B and 2C, to extend to Kisumu and Malaba border.

 “We are currently working with the government of Uganda to connect SGR to Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. This development will be integrated with development of logistics hubs and industrial parks.  This development is open to private investments,” the CS.

He was speaking yesterday during the Dutch Trade Mission on Port Development meeting held in Nairobi.

The mission comprises 17 Dutch companies with strong interest to invest in maritime/port development, logistics and the blue economy.

He said that rapid economic recovery in the country will depend on successful cooperation at the global level.

Murkomen urged participants to nurture partnerships and ideas with a real impact in fast-tracking economic recovery, whilst realizing the first-rate transport and infrastructure developments that citizens demand.

“I am satisfied that the delegates and speakers from such a diversity of perspectives allows us to better examine how we can partner in transport, logistics and supply chain sectors,” the CS added.

The CS noted that the Government has initiated plans to expand and improve airport infrastructure to facilitate efficient and effective passenger handling at all the country’s airports.
