South Sudan national team striker Tito Okello (pictured, right) will be hoping to use his knowledge of the football landscape in Kenya to help his team Bright Stars register positive results against Harambee Stars in an international friendly at the Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) Kasarani FC today.

“I will fell at home and I hope the experience of playing in Kenya will come in handy for the team. I believe we have the potential of beating Kenya if we put our act together” said the Kenya Police FC striker who has previously turned out for Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title holders Gor Mahia.

Okello said his national team will particularly be intent on making amend after suffering an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Eagles of Mali last Friday.

“We had a completely bad day in office against the West Africans and it’s upon us to make improvements against Kenya. Ours is an all-round god side and I believe we can get something out of the match despite Kenya enjoying home ground advantage,”

The Bright Stars succumbed to a well-drilled Mali which added to their catalogue of losses this year, having also lost 3-0 to Egypt, 3-2 to the Gambia and 1-0 against Congo Brazzaville, since beating the Congolese 2-1 in January.

Okello warned people not to read too much into the results, saying he was confident that they will be a different preposition altogether beginning with the friendly against Kenya and indeed other future matches.

“I know a lot is expected of me since I know Kenyan football almost like the back of my hands. You should all expect quality football from South Sudan of course with a winning mentality. We hope to give Harambee Stars a good game,” he said.

Kenya and South Sudan have faced each other three times with the former winning all of them. Harambee Stars won the first meeting between the two sides 3-1 in November 2013 during the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup that Kenya hosted.

They then claimed a 2-1 victory in June 2015 and 1-0 in March 2021, both friendly matches in Nairobi.
