Entries almost full ahead of this year’s Concours event at Jockey Club
A handful of vacant slots remain to reach the maximum capacity of 70 exquisite machines that will take place in the fast-approaching Africa Concours d’Elegancescheduled to take place on September 24 at the Nairobi Racecourse.
According to a statement from the organizers, the Concours promises an eclectic mix of both newcomers and regulars. “Among the first timers is John Milia Ntoipo with a Daimler Sovereign limousine and Major Kelvin Saningo Leiyan. He will be putting his hopes on his 1980 Mitsubishi Gallant as he drives along the judging line in front of the main Nairobi Racecourse grandstand.”
Organized annually by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club, the Concours serves the dual purpose of commemorating the club’s anniversaries and providing dedicated car and motorcycle owners the unique opportunity to have their prized possessions evaluated by seasoned experts.
Spectators are set to throng the Nairobi Racecourse from 9:00 a.m., eager to catch a glimpse of meticulously prepared cars and motorcycles rarely seen on the roads. This event, according to the organizers, also serves as a platform for attendees, particularly the ladies, to dress up for the occasion.
While the top three competitors will bask in the greatest glory, a plethora of prizes await winners across twelve car categories and eight motorcycle categories, along with awards for the best performances by various makes.
Among the remarkable contenders, Alec Davis flaunts his 1969 Alfa Romeo Spider sports car, Jane Chemngorem boasts a 1962 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia coupe, and Gayling May takes pride in his 1967 Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint.
The assessment of the 70 car entries involves a meticulous inspection using the TotalEnergies Quartz inspection ramp for the underside.
Subsequently, these automotive gems will parade slowly before experienced officials, who will meticulously inspect the paintwork, interior, boot, and engine, all against the backdrop of the grandstand.
The participants will then return to the car park.
Organizers are excited about the diverse array of vehicles participating, particularly those from neighbouring Tanzania and Uganda. Entries from Tanzania include a 1990 Lancia Delta Integrale under the skilled hands of Arusha-based Navraaj Singh Hans.
