UK jobs scam suspect detained for two weeks
A woman who is alleged to have defrauded job seekers of millions of shillings in the North Rift region between March and August 2023 has been detained in police custody until September 12.
Eldoret Chief Magistrate Dennis Mikoyan detained Dinah Jepchirchir Keter, after a successful application by the police who sought 14 days to detain her pending investigations.
The suspect, who is a retired high school teacher, will be remanded at Naiberi Police Station in Ainabkoi sub-county, Uasin Gishu.
Keter is said to have conned hundreds of desperate jobseekers of their money in the pretext that she could help them secure jobs, including in the UK army.

In a sworn affidavit, the officer said they had so far recorded statements from 20 victims out of the more than 100 complainants.
“We are currently investigating numerous cases of conspiracy to fraud at Naiberi Police Station by numerous persons among them seven people who claim that on diverse dates they were defrauded of over Sh4 million by Keter in a scam that they would be facilitated to be enlisted in the UK army,” said Njuguna.
